Abstract
Aim: This study aimed to compare the fear of contracting COVID-19, anxiety, and quality of life levels in health program students who attended and did not attend vocational practice lessons.
Method: A total of 597 university students participated in the study. The COVID-19 Fear Scale, the Coronavirus Anxiety Scale, and the SF-36 Quality of Life Scale were used as data collection tools.
Results: No statistically significant difference was found between groups related to the fear of contracting COVID-19 (p=0.144) and the anxiety levels (p=0.861). There was a significant difference between the groups in physical function (p=0.003) and general health perception (p=0.020) domains of the SF-36. A moderate positive correlation was found between the fear of contracting COVID-19 and the COVID-19 anxiety level (r=0.559, p=0.001). It was determined that the levels of the fear of contracting COVID-19 and the anxiety of the students whose relatives died because of coronavirus were significantly higher than the others (p=0.001). It was also determined that the anxiety level related to coronavirus was higher in students who had COVID-19 (p=0.033).
Conclusion: The results of the research showed that the coronavirus epidemic caused fear and anxiety in university students and negatively affected the quality of life of students.
