Abstract

Preparing the access cavity is the first and most crucial step in orthograde root canal treatment. Inadequate or improper preparation of the access cavity can lead to complications during the instrumentation and obturation phases of treatment, often resulting in treatment failure. When treatment fails, the tooth is extracted and replaced with a prosthetic restoration, leading to a loss of aesthetics and function, in addition to time and financial losses for the patient. Patients frequently seek care at dental clinics due to complaints of pain. To alleviate these issues, all dentists must successfully perform uncomplicated endodontic treatments. The foundation of effective endodontic treatment lies in proper access cavity preparation, which necessitates an understanding of the “ideal access cavity criteria”.
