The Perspective of 112 Employees on Violence in Health During the COVID-19 Pandemic

Abstract

The COVID-19 period is a rather difficult process for health workers who are trying to respond to the expectation of increased workload and demand, but also to protect their own health. In this process, cases of violence in health cause health professionals to become much more worn out and exhausted. In this study, the change in cases of health violence against 112 health workers providing emergency medical services during the COVID-19 pandemic was examined. Kayseri Provincial Directorate of Health Statistics The number of violent incidents in health for the years 2019-2020 has been retrospectively examined. In addition, demographic data, thoughts about violence in health and online survey about the cases encountered were applied to medical personnel working in Kayseri 112 Emergency Medical Services.  The survey results were statistically analyzed and compared with cases of violence in health. According to the Kayseri Provincial Health Directorate health violence registration system, there has been no increase in the number of white code cases during the COVID-19 period. 61% of the 112 employees participated in the study and it is noted by the participants that the number of cases of violence in health increased during the COVID-19 period. 112 cases of violence in emergency medical services were found to be mostly verbal violence and there were no official records. It is important that medical personnel know their rights and use their legal rules effectively to prevent incidents of violence in health related to pre-hospital health care personnel.
