Abstract
The peripheral nervous system is a transmission system that bridges the central nervous system and the
effector organ. It carries stimuli from the environment to the central nervous system while transmitting
stimuli from the central nervous system to the organs. Peripheral nerves spread to many body areas and
play an essential role in regulating the body's functioning. Since they are located in many areas of the body,
they are frequently damaged due to trauma. It is a long and challenging process for damaged peripheral
nerves to return to their former structure and function. The difficulty and duration of this process vary
according to the size of the injuries. The literature has many different treatment methods for complete and
rapid regeneration in all types of injuries. In addition to classical nerve grafts, electrical stimulation has
frequently started to take its place as a treatment option in recent years. All studies in the literature aim to
increase axonal sprouting and create an effective treatment option. This review aims to define the
degeneration process in peripheral nerve injuries and summarize the practices that improve degeneration
