Abstract

Aim: The aim of this study is to examine the functions of families with a child with hearing loss and to investigate the impact on family functions according to the child’s, hearing aid, parent's gender, income level.

Materials and Methods: Parents of 129 children with hearing loss who were educated in the rehabilitation center in Kahramanmaraş city center participated in the study. Personal Information Form and Family Evaluation Scale were used as data collection tools. The data were interpreted using the SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Sciences) 25.0 package program using frequency, percentage values, mean and standard deviation. Independent sample t test, ANOVA, and Bonferroni test were used.

Findings: According to the findings when the dimension of showing due attention, which is one of the subdimensions of the Family Evaluation Scale, was examined according to the income levels of the income levels of the participants, the difference was found to be significant. When problem solving, communication, roles and general functions subdimensions were examined according to the age of the children, the differences were found to be significant.

Conclusion: Influences were determined according to the variables in the family evaluation scale.
