To Investigate the Contribution of Unilateral Hearing Aids and Bilateral Hearing Aids to Patients' Living Standards and Satisfaction in Individuals

Abstract

Objective: The aim of this study is to determine the effect of using single-sided and double-sided hearing aids on the satisfaction of individuals with bilateral sensorineural hearing loss.
Materials and Methods: This study was carried out in descriptive type by using quantitative research methods. The study was carried out with a total of 40 patients, including 20 patients using a single-sided hearing aid and 20 patients using a double-sided hearing aid, who met the inclusion criteria. Research data were collected between March 2020 and August 2020.
Results: It was determined that 55% (n=22) of the individuals participating in the study were between the ages of 61-68, and 67.5% (n=27) were male. 50% of the individuals included in our study use a single-sided device and 50% use a double-sided device. Considering the satisfaction scores, it was determined that while the mean score was 3.60 in patients using a single-sided device, it was 4.72 in patients using a double-sided device (p<0.05).
Conclusion: It has been concluded that individuals using double-sided hearing aids have a higher level of satisfaction than individuals using single-sided hearing aids. For this reason, it would be appropriate to expand the use of devices in individuals with hearing difficulties and to eliminate all material and moral obstacles that prevent use by increasing support factors.
